These days the Pope is on a pastoral visit to Asia. After visiting Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, with celebrations in stadiums and organised areas, the ‘tour’ landed on its third stop in Timor-Leste, and then on to Singapore.
The event took place in the area of Lake Tasi Tolu, near Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, with an expected attendance of around 1 million people, in addition to visitors from neighbouring nations. This is an area of 600m x 200m that extends into the adjacent roads and beaches.
After months of meticulous planning and preparation, the Wharfedale Pro WLA-312X system was fielded. The project team, aware of the complex requirements, was eager to see how the system would perform in a real-world environment. Despite a large listening area and the many challenges posed by its topography, the WLA system not only met, but exceeded all expectations.
Its ability to provide uniform and consistent coverage, with minimal drop in sound quality, impressed the many professionals involved. The sound remained clear and evenly distributed in every corner of the space, ensuring that every listener experienced the same level of sound quality. A performance that showcased the outstanding capabilities of the Wharfedale Pro WLA system in demanding, large-scale applications.
Project supervisor Remo Orsoni, is the director of the IAG Group‘s professional product research and development laboratory and designer of the Wharfedale Pro WLA-312X system chosen for this project. Remo recounts that from the outset it was realised that the system had to be dimensioned with a medium sound pressure level, below European standards. This while maintaining a uniform level of coverage and a good level of involvement of the huge audience expected in the vast area. In this country, the average level of musical culture and listening education is extremely high. There is always live music at every venue and every parish has a choir and orchestra accompanying religious and other events.
