LightShark upgrades: more powerful, more flexible

In recent years, Equipson has always introduced new and important features at major trade fair events, including the LightShark lighting console. Over time, the company introduced RAY, a new 3D visualiser based on the Unreal engine, and a new LS Core IO version dedicated to installations. At LDI 2023 LightShark is presenting a new software with many new features that will certainly enhance the user experience. Let’s go and discover them…

Key features that distinguish LightShark are its use in combination with tablets and smartphones, a comprehensive, intuitive and well-organised interface, and a robust and reliable design. Today, the series consists of the LS1, a compact, ergonomic and intuitive surface with 10 playback faders and 4 circular encoders, conceived to design, program and execute lighting shows with a complete console in a small format; LS WING, a multi-protocol and multi-functional device that can also be remotely activated or controlled by external devices via network with OSC and UDP protocols; LS CORE, the ultra-portable system offering the full potential of LightShark and fully configurable remotely; LS NODES, the bi-directional DMX512 ArtNet-RDM or sACN system that can work as a splitter, merger or backup unit.

We had a chance to touch on the new features that mainly concern the advanced management of the Programmer and cue storage.

Specifically, the Record Merge and Record Remove functions allow you to quickly include the information contained in the Programmer in the selected cue or in all the cues in a cuelist without using the EDIT+UPDATE function, respectively, and to quickly remove information from a Cue or the entire cuelist without having to edit it one by one.
In addition, it is possible to use the EDIT function multiple times so that information from multiple Cues can be included in the Programmer at the same time.

Another small but important update concerns the number of ArtNet universes, changed from 4 to 8, and the possibility to perform a Digital Patch, assigning any universe from the console to any network universe, even with different protocols, along with the possibility to enable or disable universes individually.

Also very useful are the implementation of the ArtNet v4 protocol and the Unicast feature, which allows defining a specific IP for each universe so as to speed up sending information to a particular node.

With the new version, LightShark has introduced a useful WEB user manual that can be accessed directly from the user interface. The online help includes several video tutorials and images that explain the use of LightShark step by step.

Finally, the ability to automatically locate LSW-1 wings on the network by choosing the network card to which the various devices are connected.

Thanks to this series of updates, LightShark has taken a major step forward especially in the editing part. The Record Merge and Record Remove functions, as well as the ability to include several cues in the programmer, actually reduce programming time, allowing massive or targeted edits to be made very quickly.

Another upgrade that actually increases the console’s usability is the 8 ArtNet universes, and thus more important and complex lighting rigs with more fixtures and the use of more protocols in different universes. A useful improvement in flexibility as well.
