Using its custom built demo room to deliver education to a whole range of people from across the region, the specialised training programme provided by d&b audiotechnik Japan has been experiencing a second busy year. Since 2014, attendees have included students, budding and experienced engineers, technicians and system designers.
The training is set up as three separate sessions, which run over three consecutive days, although there is no prerequisite to attend workshops if not required. The Electroacoustics seminar provides a comprehensive guide to the principles of acoustics; the line array workshop is a practical session that takes attendees through line array theory and the d&b ArrayCalc simulation software, while the Remote network workshop offers a dedicated guide to the d&b R1 Remote control software.
The events are organised and run by Shinichiro Yonekura, Head of d&b Japan, “We have a pretty comprehensive selection of loudspeakers set up in the demo room which was modelled quite closely on the space used in our GB office. So everyone can see, feel and touch everything: loudspeakers designed for touring, both line array and point source, as well as cabinets that are dedicated installation products. People have come from all over, from Kyushu Island to Hokkaido, and there has been a unanimously positive tone to their feedback.”
One university student summed up the benefits of the d&b ‘hands on’ approach to training. “I feel confident about all the theory but there is no substitute for the practical experience these days have offered me. I think I learnt more in a day than in a year’s theoretical training.”
As Yonekura explains, in Japan, this type of training seminar is unique to d&b and the enthusiastic response to the first year of sessions in 2014 convinced him to continue delivering these opportunities throughout 2015 and beyond. This year the training sessions have proved so popular that they have been running on a monthly basis. “We have been thrilled by the uptake to the seminars,” concludes Yonekura. “As one satisfied customer told us: ‘there is no substitute for gaining hands on experience, guided by people who know and understand exactly how the hardware, software and theory all work together in harmony’.”
