Reminiscent of one of the lighter scenes in Tarantino’s classic Pulp Fiction, the Pink Cadillac restaurant in Moscow city centre has exactly that; a beautiful nineteen fifties model, all fins and chrome, sat right in the middle of the room. This is the real deal; dancing, singing waiters bring burgers and milkshakes to your table in this immersive retro dining experience. Yet for all this glamour the building used to be a garage so when AE Consulting first came to remodel the room the acoustic environment was one of their primary concerns.
“We faced a real challenge,” said Alexander Evstratov, AE Consulting Director General. “In our line of work we focus on quality rather than quantity, so to neutralise the reverberation of the room and other unwanted acoustic artefacts, required the lightest of touches architecturally speaking. To complete the fifties ambience the owners wanted music at authentic sound levels, the need for clear sound was paramount. The reverberations we solved with the interior designers, selecting specific materials for the décor and adding epoxy foam behind the most troublesome areas. For music we turned to sound reinforcement specialists from ARIS, in particular their project manager Denis Kolomiets. We have worked with ARIS on many projects, they repeatedly recommend d&b audiotechnik sound systems and we know they love this brand. They have made us love this brand as well. We have always had good results with d&b, even in the most difficult of rooms; Pink Cadillac was no different. An acoustic model in the d&b ArrayCalc simulation software with the d&b T-Series loudspeakers in the room looked perfect. The final design used T10 loudspeakers with T-SUBs flown in array. When we then saw just how compact the T-Series is we knew our client would be delighted, and they were.”
Kolomiets concluded, “It simply would not do to ignore the low end when trying to evoke that fifties musical experience so subs were essential. Fortunately Alexander and his team did such a good job on the acoustics that when the system was tuned to the room it really let the T-SUBs breathe. The positioning of the performance stage made it possible to put every seat in the room within the direct field of T10s, further enhancing the listening experience.”
So now hip Muscovites looking for that authentic Royale with cheese experience just need to toddle down to Bolshaya Gruzinskaya St and enter the Pink Cadillac.
