A partnership was signed in November 2006 between the Italian company Clay Paky and Jagmag Electric, one of India’s leading lighting rental and sales companies. Jagmag is owned and run by Atul Sonpal, one of the highest profile, most prolific and creative lighting designers in India.
There was a mutual interest for both parties. Clay Paky was interested in appointing an Indian dealer who was well established in the west of the country, primarily Mumbai, which has its own specific market apart from the rest of India.
Jagmag Electric was looking for a cutting edge high quality moving light brand to add to its portfolio of leading international brands which also included Avolites form the UK and W-DMX from Sweden.
“Atul Sonpal is definitely a very important Lighting Designer in India” – comments Alberico D’Amato – Clay Paky Sales Manager for India. “He has been involved with numerous large scale international productions including the MTV IMMIES Awards plus all the major Indian bollywood award nites and bollywood shows. This partnership will greatly enhance the standing of both parties.”.
Jagmag Electric’s appointment will not affect the existing profitable and consolidated partnership between Clay Paky and Dhawan Stagecraft, Clay Paky’s long standing distributor in New Delhi. “Jagmag and Dhawan know each other well, they have always had a very friendly and cooperative relationship. Given the vastness of the Indian market, the fact that the Clay Paky trademark is promoted and recognized further afield, is positive and an advantage for both companies. As with all great teams, each individual works towards a common goal that benefits everyone”– says Alberico D’Amato.
Clay Paky’s presence in India is currently focused on the professional sector – in television, rental and large public and private events. Following the deal with Jagmag, Clay Paky has already made a large shipment of Alpha Wash 1200, Alpha Spot HPE 1200 and Alpha Spot 1200 available. These will be utilised on television shows throughout December and coming year.
Alberico D’Amato concludes: “The intention is to promote our products, in particular the mobile Alpha Line, to all professional sectors in India via the experience, reputation and expertise of Atul Sonpal. The Alpha line is currently in great demand worldwide in all sectors of professional lighting and entertainment. It’s used at some of the most famous theatres in the world (Bolshoi, Marijnsky, Moulin Rouge….), for important Television studios, and at world class international events, like the recent opening and closing ceremonies of the Doha Asian Games in Qatar. With this behind us, we and our distributors Jagmag and Dhawan offer top quality technical contributions to enhance the most important shows in India”.
