The first installation of ETC’s Obsession II lighting control console in the United Arab Emirates was completed in Emirates Media’s Abu Dhabi TV earlier this summer when the studio upgraded its lighting equipment to prepare for the new game show Win Your Weight In Gold. An alternative take on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, the programme’s top prize is determined by … the individual contestant’s weight!
The television station’s technical team, supervised by Mohammad Refaie, Head of Abu Dhabi TV’s Lighting Unit, specified the technical requirements for the upgrade. “We needed a new console, capable of handling both conventional and moving lights,” said Refaie. Oasis Enterprises, officially appointed ETC’s regional distributor in October 2002, came up with the perfect solution to meet the brief, supplying and installing the state-of-the-art 3000 channel Obsession II, together with ten Source Fours.
“As almost all of Abu Dhabi TV’s equipment is from ETC [there is ETC equipment in all eight of the television station’s studios], it is the manufacturer of preference when we upgrade our equipment,” said Refaie, explaining: “Not only are our technicians familiar with ETC equipment, but its products are the most reliable I’ve ever worked with.”
The Source Fours were added to the many ETC luminaires the studio already has in its lighting rig, as well as the Sensor dimming and Express 250 consoles, which were installed about four years ago. And there’s more to come: after seeing Emphasis, ETC’s complete control system, Abu Dhabi TV is planning to upgrade an Express 250 to its new, full potential, incorporating the latest version of the WYSIWYG lighting visualisation software.
After the installation, ETC provided the studio’s staff with two training sessions on operating the new console. Immediately after the installation, Richard Lambert, ETC’s Technical Services Manager, assisted with programming and basic training and a couple of weeks later, David Gray, ETC’s Field Project Manager for the Southern Region, made a follow up visit.
Basil Al Arif, Sales and Marketing Manager at Oasis Enterprises, said: “Working with ETC gives us the assurance that we are supplying our customers with excellent products, safe in the knowledge that ETC’s staff are always ready to help – from the installation process and training sessions to reprogramming or upgrading.”
And the assurance is mutual. As a natural development of the past four years’ close working relationship between ETC and Oasis Enterprises, Oasis Enterprises is now the ETC distributor for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries providing project services, local stock, service, spares and support. “With in-house factory authorised service technicians, Oasis Enterprises offers clients in the GCC countries excellent service and support for all ETC equipment, as part of the global ETC distributor network,” said David Gray.
